Alaska Wrongful Death Laws
According to Alaska law a personal representative of the deceased’s estate may file a wrongful death claim. Any compensation won in a suit is awarded to the deceased’s spouse, children, or other dependents, regardless of whether or not the personal representative of the estate is a family member of the deceased.
The statute of limitations to file a claim is two years from the date of death, it’s important to note that the date of your loved one’s death may be different from the date an accident or injury occurred. While there is some leeway for the statute of limitations in specific cases, it’s best to file a claim as soon as possible so you don’t miss the window to do so. While no amount of money will bring your loved one back, it may help bring peace of mind to know your expenses will be taken care of and the negligent party has been brought to justice.
